Is Glucosamine beneficial in diabetes ?
There was a recent study done by Dr.
Daren Scroggie and some of the people from Wellford Hall Medical
Center at Lack land Air Force Base, Texas. They studied the
effect of Glucosamine on glucose levels of human beings. This
study was very important as there were conflicting reports about
the use of Glucosamine and its effect on diabetics.
The clinical study stated that taking Glucosamine supplements in
humans does in no way affect glucose levels in patients with
diabetes. The 34 patients who were taking Glucosamine showed
none or very little fluctuations in the levels of glucose. The
authors of the study stated, that "since patients with diabetes
are at risk for toxic effects from some of the current
treatments for osteoarthritis (NSAIDs in particular) Glucosamine
may provide a safe alternative treatment for these patients."
This clinical study hence brings us to the conclusion that
Glucosamine can be used by patients suffering from diabetics.
Glucosamine has great benefits as it’s an important component in
the treatment of arthritis. This is because it provides
strength, flexibility, and elasticity to cartilage and
connective tissue by stimulating the production of
glycosaminoglycans, molecules that are responsible for holding
the joints together. Hence oral Glucosamine is commonly used for
the treatment of osteoarthritis. This is because Glucosamine
helps in rebuilding cartilage and hence helps in the treatment
of arthritis. Also there has been no evidence still found on bad
affects of Glucosamine. Glucosamine have been extracted from
shell fish and hence people suffering from allergy of shell fish
should not take it.
