Amino
Acids: Aloe provides the 8 essential amino acids that
the human body cannot manufacture required for the production of
muscle tissue etc.
Anthraquinones: Eg, Aloe
emodin, Aloetic Acid, Aloin, Anthracine, Antranol, Barbaloin,
Chrysophanic Acid, in relatively small concentrations,
traditionally known as laxatives, they aid absorption from the
gastro-intestinal tract. They also have pain killng effects.
Enzymes: They provide
enzymes like Alkaline Phosphatase, Amylase, Carboxypeptidase,
Catalase, Cellulase, Lipase, Peroxidase which aid digestion by
breaking down fat and sugars.
Minerals: Eg, Calcium,
Chromium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Potassium, Sodium,
Zinc, are essential for good health as they are required for the
proper functioning of various enzyme systems in different
metabolic pathways.
Sterols: Aloe vera provides
like steroids: Cholesterol, Campesterol, Lupeol, ß Sitosterol,
which are anti-inflammatory agents, also possesses antiseptic
and analgesic properties.
Sugars: Aloe Vera contains
both mono and polysaccharides, but the most important are the
mucopolysaccharides. These sugars are ingested whole from the
gut, not broken down like other sugars, and appear in the
bloodstream in exactly the same form, where exert their their
immuno- modulation effect. Eg, Acemannan (mucopolysaccharide)
and other polysaccharides boost T-lymphocyte cells which help
promote skin healing and neutralize many of the enzymes
responsible for damaging the mucosal wall. They hold the building
blocks of the immune system together, aiding macrophages and
other components of immune response to "recognize" invasive
agents. Mucopolysaccharides are found in every single cell in
the body. The human body stops manufacturing its own
mucopolysaccharides around puberty and from then on must rely on
outside sources. Monosaccharides: glucose & fructose, have
anti-inflammatory action. Lignin is a cellulose based substance,
which is thought to provide penetrating power in Aloe vera skin
preparations and may act as a carrier for other components.
Vitamins: It is rich in all
vitamins excluding Vitamin D, especially the antioxidant
Vitamins A (beta-carotene), C and E and even contains a trace of
vitamin B12, one of the very few plant sources of this vitamin.
Glycoproteins: A
glycoprotein (14 kDa) isolated from Aloe vera gel showed radical
scavenging activity and wound-healing effect of aloe vera via
cell proliferation and migration.
Some other compounds include
• Prostaglandins (gamma-linoleic acid....prostaglandin 1 series)
have favorable effects on inflammation, allergy, platelet
aggregation, wound healing.
• Hormones They provide hormones like Auxins & Gibberellins,
which has wound healing and anti-inflammatory effects.
|
|
• Salicylic Acid It is an aspirin-
like compound possessing anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial
properties.
• Saponins These soapy substances are glycosides, having
antiseptic properties. They act as powerful anti-microbials
against bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeast.
Based on the numerous constituents
of aloe, it has been used as a remedy for
• Bacterial, Viral, Fungal and Parasitic Conditions- Aloe has
been widely used as an antimicrobial agent. It has been shown to
have direct antiviral activity against HIV1( AIDS), effective
against feline leukemia, influenza, and measles, relieves
symptoms of fungal, yeast and bacterial infections.
