What is a Car Creeper ?
For those who find it cumbersome to
work on a car lying on the back, here is the solution for you -
car creepers. It is especially convenient for home mechanics
when find it uncomfortable lying on their back on the dirty
floor and repairing their vehicle.
How did the idea of car creepers
evolve?
Commercial garages and repair shops have hoists, which are
hydraulic lifts to lift up the car enabling the repair work to
be done from beneath. Even the local oil shops and small
mechanics have a pit in their shops which is a basement form
where the mechanic can work on the underside of the vehicle, be
it a car or a truck. For the home mechanics, it is expensive to
have a hoist or a pit installed in his garage. Most of the home
mechanics manage with some contraption of their own. This could
be making jack stands with two or three-ton floor jacks
underneath the vehicle. Then the mechanics crawl underneath the
vehicle and engage in the repair work. It was from this
endurance of the discomfort for hours together that the idea of
car creepers emerged.
What does a car creeper consist of?
A car creeper is a devise which consists of :
• a steel or aluminium frame
• a metal or cushioned surface on which the mechanic can lie
down comfortably while repairing and
• a set of wheels, which enable the mechanic to operate with
ease.
