How did the idea of car creepers evolve?
Commercial garages and repair shops have hoists, which are hydraulic lifts to lift up the car enabling the repair work to be done from beneath. Even the local oil shops and small mechanics have a pit in their shops which is a basement form where the mechanic can work on the underside of the vehicle, be it a car or a truck. For the home mechanics, it is expensive to have a hoist or a pit installed in his garage. Most of the home mechanics manage with some contraption of their own. This could be making jack stands with two or three-ton floor jacks underneath the vehicle. Then the mechanics crawl underneath the vehicle and engage in the repair work. It was from this endurance of the discomfort for hours together that the idea of car creepers emerged.

A car creeper is a devise which consists of :
• a steel or aluminium frame
• a metal or cushioned surface on which the mechanic can lie down comfortably while repairing and
• a set of wheels, which enable the mechanic to operate with ease.

How do you fix a car creeper?
Using a floor jack, first jack the car. Ensure that the jack stands are placed erect so that the vehicle does not topple. Lie on your back with the car creeper supporting your head, back and buttocks. This is comfortable as it will allow you to push the vehicle if needs be, using you legs which are free. The car creeper enables you to raise yourself above the ground which facilitates your repair work.


What are the advantages of car creepers?
Car creepers make repairing cars a pleasant task as it has a number of special features. These enhance the user’s comfort and efficiency. Since car creepers have cushions which are covered in vinyl, it is easy to clean the oil that is spilt or dirt and grime from the car. The headrests of car creepers are cushioned and some have adjustable ones too. Some of the more expensive car creepers have the additional feature of tool trays attached to them, making it easier for the mechanic to pick up his tools and put them back.
