Origin of the word catwalk
Catwalk is perhaps originated from catwalks, the elevated or underground pedestrian walkway which connects adjacent buildings or streets. It is also known as skywalk or runway. In the contemporary world, catwalk has emerged as a fashion prop, an indispensable stage for a fashion show.

Catwalk as a career

Many see catwalk modeling as an exciting career. Models have to practice walking the catwalk or runway. They should display confidence and have their own style of walking. The pose at the end of the catwalk or runway too is important. The model should be adept in giving different poses according to the theme of the show or the emotion that the designer wants for the clothes and accessories displayed.

 

A few tips on how to walk like a catwalk model
Firstly you have to choose the right shoes and practise walking in them. Initially, you can start off on two-inch heels and then switch to higher heels. The next step is to learn to stand like a supermodel. This can be practised by throwing the shoulders back and pushing the pelvis slightly forward. You should train yourself to walk like the way ballerinas walk—on tip toes and by putting one foot in front of the other. There's no simple formula for walking the catwalk. What will ultimately establish you as a good catwalk model will depend on the personality that you are able to project in your show.
