What is Babykeyboard ?
A baby keyboard is a miniature
computer keyboard. Any keyboard with a very small footprint
regardless of how many keys it has, is a "baby keyboard.” Baby
keyboards are also called “mini” keyboards. They are compact and
therefore afford easy portability.
History of baby keyboards
The history of baby keyboards can be traced to the early 1980s
when IBM designed the first commercial PC/ XT keyboards with 83
keys. However the footprint was comparable to the standard sized
keyboards today. Later with the release of the first PC/AT
computer IBM improved the layout of the keyboard and the shape
of the keys. The new PC/AT keyboard was similar to the modern
keyboards, the only difference being the F- keys or the function
keys. They remained grouped in two columns at the left of the
board but still there were only 84 keys.
After this keyboard design saw an unprecedented makeover with
the market flooded with an array of keyboards like multimedia
keyboards, ergonomic keyboards, programmable keyboards, and
keyboards with built-in trackballs or touch pads.
How are
baby keyboards different from the standard keyboards ?
Standard keyboards run close to 18 inches (46 cm) in length.
Baby keyboards usually have 84-89 keys with 101-104 key
functionality, and are commonly 13 inches 33 centimeters) or
less in length.
